Taking out the kayak
I took out my kayak!
I had a few hours free the other day and decided it was time to take out my kayak. I have had this kayak for over 10 years now and I used to use it every weekend but I moved and had kids and just stopped using it. It is an inflatable kayak that I am a bit suppirsed it has not had issues in the years I have owned it. I tested it out before heading to the lake and it pumpped up fine so I went out to the lake near me and just set off for a quick lap around the lake.
The lake is about 2 miles from one shore line to the other and 1/3 of a mile wide or so. I did not get out any tools to measure it but there is enough space to kayak around and have some fun but its not a huge lake that would take all day to paddle around. I ened up going from the boat launch area to the other end and back in about an hour and that was a lot of just sitting there taking photos and taking in the moment.
It was a good time paddling around the lake and I got some fun photos from it. As I was sitting there on the lake I started to think about how much I missed kayaking. When I bought this kayak I was camping a lot more and had a lot of fun being able to just pump it up and paddle around what ever lake was near by. I have not gone camping in years either and was thinking its time to get back to doing that. Though my life is different than it used to be and I would be much more inclined to go for a cabin with a bed instead of a tent with a bad sleeping bag on the ground. Mostly becuase I would want my kids to have the best time instead of an okay time. I want them to share my enjoyment for the outdoors like I have been rediscovering recently. This journey has really made me remember so many things I used to do that I stopped doing becuase of life getting in the way but life does not have to get in the way I can make life around this stuff too.
Morning Cycling and the fall weather
I have still been cycling every morning and it has been getting colder in the morning. It is still nice and warm in the middle of the day but 6:30AM it is a high of 60 degrees fahrenheit so not exactly cold but chilly once you start riding. I end up warming up after a few miles but its hard to decide what to wear in the morning short and feel cold for a while or cycling pants and overheat mid ride? I have been taking the shorts option still but I think that will be chaning soon. Its getting harder to convince myself to go riding when I go to leave and my bed is so warm. If I did not go though I would not be able to see cool morning fall fog.
The way the sun shines through the fog makes it hard to see more than a hundred feet down the path but the way the rays of light shine through the trees and on the fog is just awesome. Its hard to show this with a photo from a phone camera and I will be taking a better camera out there soon to get better photos of this.
For the next few weeks I am going to focus on cycling but very soon I am going to start thinking about the other things I would like to do to keep myself on the journey. I am going to still break out the fat tire bike in the winter but I think that I would like to start lifting again. I did not meet any goal with that last year even though I did lift for a while I think it will be the year of getting more of that done.
I am off to plan out another short kayaking trip and debate my morning attire. Thank you very much for reading have and wonderful day!
