Cycling, Running, and Swimming
I might still do the triathlon
For a while I was going back and fourth on if I should do the triathlon that is near me and my major issue was the swimming portion of it. I have finally found a place I can swim when ever I want. Looking at the distance of the triathlon the swim is only 1/3 of a mile so its still a long swim but they also listed that there will be plenty of beginner support for that section. I have a little less fear of getting in the water and just not being able to finish that part. The only down side to this right now is there is only 23 days or so until the event so I have to get swimming every single day to make sure that I can do it.
I started swimming today and did a few laps but an 18 foot round pool is not ideal for freestyle laps so I just went around in a circle and that worked out fairly well. The only issue I have is that I do not have a single clue how far I went as the samsung watchs smallest size is 10 meters so double the size of the pool I am swimming in. Going around in a circle also does not quite line up with the simple math as its 18 feet around but I have to be a few feet in the edge to make sure I do not bump it so I am going to just go off time and hope for the best. 23 mintues of swimming was perfect for a start and my arms are tired but its not too bad. I am going to try as hard as I can for the next 2 weeks and see where I am at before really deciding on the triathlon. If I can swim for an hour I with out stopping I will assume that I can make it the 1/3 of a mile even though that might not be the most accurate way to measure things its something. I am not a fast swimmer and have little experience swimming in a group or race but beginner friendly makes me feel better about that. There will be much more to come on if I decide to sign up or not but odds are in looking like yes.
Still cycling!
Even though I have a place to swim and the summer is here I am still going to be cycling every day. I also am less worried about my eye getting infected again. I have taken a few steps to make sure that I do not have that issue again. I also have become that person who would rather get on their bike than get in a car to go places. Most of the time I do not leave my local area anyway so wasting gas to go somewhere 5 miles from me by car seems like a silly idea. I have used the kid cart more times this year than I had all of last year and my kids love going on rides with me. We end up going so many places by bike now and its so refreshing to no think about parking or gas. I am not going to get rid of my car becuase I still need it for places that are longer distance and larger things like full grocery shopping or stuff from the hardware store. I am happy that I live in a area where the trail system links up to the downtowns around me so I do not have to ride much in the roads. I do not mind riding in the road when it is just me by myself but with the kids I do not trust it so only on the path with the kids except for tiny bits of road that not many cars go down.
This time of year is perfect for cycling in the morning its not too hot but also not cold either. I also get to see the wildlife doing its thing like the deer just walking around doing deer things or the tortoises laying eggs along the river bank. Though this one tortoise did not get the memo and attempted to dig itself on a concrete bridge. It was early in the morning so I guess it needed a coffee before figuring out that it was not going to be able to dig there.
How about that diet.
I have been dieting and its been rougher recently. I got used to exercising everyday and eating what ever I wanted too. Last year it was kind of a together thing where I was doing it for the first time so the hunger was there but it was not too bad. This time it feels different almost like I am twice as hungry as I should be and I have been trying to eat healthy again. I cut down breakfast a little and added some fruit to the mix as well as salad for lunch. Last year the salads were filling to me but this year eating the same amount of salad I am still hungry and wanting more. I think this part will pass but it has been going fairly well so far. There have been a few little minor set backs like waking up in the middle of the night and eating a whole bowl of ice cream but that is few and far between so its fine. I have still been dealing with a lot of things not having to do with the journey that has kept me from writting down my diet but I have been sticking to the calories and eating healthier things so its working out for now with out a written down diet.
I am off to get some more swimming in and try to get in a triathlon! Thank you very much for reading have and wonderful day!
